About Danger Point Lighthouse

Danger Point is aptly named. Located between Gansbaai and Kleinbaai, the area was a treacherous passage for ships in history with over 20 ships having been wrecked along this coast. The hidden reefs and rocky outcrops just under the water were difficult to spot. The point extends about 8 km off the shore. The lighthouse was mercifully constructed in 1895 with a commemorative plaque recording the fatal event of the Birkenhead ship.
