Talbot Trout Farm
About Talbot Trout Farm
Talbot Trout Farm is located in the “Trout Triangle” in the Mpumalanga Highlands, between Dullstroom and Machadodorp, and is only a two and a half hour drive from Gauteng. The farm boasts 280 acres of spectacular hills and valleys with incredible views and three trout ponds.
Self-catering accommodation is offered in two self-catering cottages: Protea and Agapanthus Cottage. The cottages are well equipped with everything guests need for a weekend getaway. Both cottages are private, have fireplaces and outdoor braai facilities, and the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with showers.
The farm is proud of its environmentally friendly policy. The cottages use the farm's mineral water which is filtered to produce extremely pure water. The cottages are powered by solar panels, which provide a stable supply of 220 V. Unfortunately, it is not enough to use electrical appliances with heating elements such as hair dryers.
The farm is home to blesbok, ribbok, zebras, donkeys, a Shetland pony and a few geese. About 150 different bird species have been seen on the farm. Foxes, muskrat cats, tiger bush cats, porcupines, earth wolves, brown hyenas, duikers and dassies are also frequently spotted. Ospreys and a number of waterfowl are also common in the ponds.
The farm boasts three trout ponds that are filled annually. Talbot Farm is popular as a catch-and-release fishing destination for exercise purposes.
